When you are doing a documentary project, one very important of the "behind the scenes" activities is actually gaining access to your subject mater. In this case, gaining access means making contact with various leaders in the 18 Middletowns I plan to study and film.
I have decided that three of the first organizations I will try to make contact with are: the local chamber of commerce, the historical society and any Main Street associations. Since I am in Maryland a lot for work with clients and it is one of the closest to my Middletown in Delaware, Middletown, Maryland was one of the first towns to whom I reached out to various leaders.
I sent an email to the Middletown (MD) Valley Historical Society and the Chamber of Commerce of Frederick County. The Historical Society also got me in touch with the Manager of the Middletown Main Street (MD) association.
Yesterday, I had my first meeting with Dwight from the Historical Society and Michael from the Chamber of Commerce. We met at Dempsey's Grille on Main Street.
I hope this will be the first of many meetings and the start of a mutually beneficial relationship.
